The PARENT Principles!
This space was born out of a heartfelt prayer:
"Holy Spirit, show me how to parent!"
I am mum of 3 and step-mum of 1. As a parent, I have not tried it all, but I have tried a lot. Without realising it, I often relied on my own strength and wisdom, even when applying Biblical principles. I spent years fighting fire after fire, reacting to challenges as they arose. Deep down, I knew there had to be more to parenting than keeping chaos at bay.
I wanted to parent in a way that avoided the avoidable struggles and prepared us for the rest. Whilst not seeking perfection, I did not want what I did not know to cause me to parent in ways that negatively impacted my precious children. Instead, I longed for a parenting strategy that worked for the different ages, stages and personalities of my children, and caused them to walk in God's plan and purpose for their lives. I wanted only God's wisdom and truth on parenting.
In His kindness, the Holy Spirit began to answer my cry through the letters in the word ‘parent’. These principles have changed everything for me, and I believe they can do the same for you. I realised that the key to success in parenting was to allow God to work on me. That's what makes The PARENT Principles different.
Now, I want to empower Christian parents and guardians to thrive as people so they can thrive as parents by focusing on six core principles encapsulated in the acronym PARENT:
-
Prioritise Prayer
-
Abound in Love
-
Reverence God
-
Example
-
Nourish and Nurture
-
Togetherness
